Hey you. The one laughing hysterically at my hat. (technically, it’s called a Fascinator, but whatever) STOP LAUGHING. THESE ARE REALLY BIG OVER IN ENGLAND.
Anyway, I’m using this humiliating picture of myself to make a point here – how the unexpected can sometimes inspire you in untold ways.
David Sher, my business partner, always reminds me that business leads come out of unexpected places. And he is so right…
It is truly amazing to me how, when you put yourself in situations where you are doing in-person networking, business leads ALWAYS follow.
An example of this: a few months ago, I was asked to speak at an event full of business people who were in an industry that would not be very likely to do business with Buzz12. I hesitated before accepting the invitation to speak. When I talked it over with David, he said “you can’t know what the benefit of speaking will be until after the event – you just have to trust that the benefit will be there.”
I trusted him (as I usually do), and by golly, he was right. We had a prospective client that was on the edge of signing with us, and I met a good friend of his while I was there. The good friend then went back and (unbeknownst to me), said nice things about me to the prospective client. Who is now a current client!
So hopefully you are inspired to go to that next networking event, even if it’s not immediately clear what the benefit will be.
And I’m SUPER sorry you don’t look as fabulous in your Fascinator as I do. Toodle-loo!!
Phyllis is a Partner in Buzz12. She is funnier and more attractive than David Sher. Also, she looks better in a Fascinator than he does. You can read more of her posts by looking for the “Phyllis Neill Posts” category in the sidebar of Buzz12’s website.

You’ve never seen me in a Fascinator. How do you know you look better in a Fascinator than me?
Dear David:
I’ve also never seen you in a dress. Some things you just KNOW.
Love, Phyllis
If David would like to model a fascinator and a dress for the blog we can all be the judge.
Actually, Holly, that’s a good idea–the hat, not the dress. Maybe we could do a poll. I bet I’d win!
